Day 4 - Ty Gwyn
Today I visited Ty Gwyn, a unit that is on site here at Elliots Hill. I was asked to do a mural on Dean (a resident customer's) wall.
I absolutlely loved the immediate challenge of painting this and I hope to return soon and add to a little more to it. Brilliant day.

Day 3 - Vineyard Vale
Today I drove to Pentlepoir to meet a group of Customers that all live nearby. After introductions both customers and staff spent a very productive hour painting tiles. It was a lovely afternoon which all seemed to enjoy (one or two especially) and I hope to go back for another visit during the next few months.
The above image is of Tracy who painstakingly selected beads so that they were all colour co-ordinated, the end result was brilliant.

Day 2 - Afternoon spent with Megan.
Spent a lovely afternoon painting with Megan who lives on site here at Great Elliots Hill in her beautiful home marvelling at her attention to detail.

Day Two...
I spent some of the morning in the residential care home on-site here at Great Elliots Hill, the duration of the workshop was probably only around an hour but really productive (I'm finding this seems to be a good amount of time for each person to do atleast one or two tiles). Around half of the residents participated and I hope when I return at the end of the month I can get a few more on board - including the staff!

A little bit about....
Firstly, a short introduction:
I am Lizzy Waterhouse and I am practising artist and also a support worker working with adults with learning disabilities.
I decided to embark on a MA in Arts and Health last year and this is one of the two project placements that I will be doing this year (the other will be a week spent in the Dublin Centre for the Blind).
Now for the project...
I am planning to visit different Units and houses out in the community taking Arts materials with me so that I can hold very immediate workshops with the idea that the customers and their support staff can create small works that will eventually be a part of a/several much larger works.
The idea...
Using small 5"x5" MDF squares, 3 shades of each Red, Blue, Green and yellow Acryllic paint and various beads, sequins, stones etc I am asking each individual to choose just one range of colours to decorate their tile/s with. Ultimately the intention is to use the coloured tiles to build a much larger image, either a picture or a pattern that can be viewed from a distance. Only when the viewer gets closer can they see the detail of each tile.
The outcome...
It is my hope that all that participate in this collaborative artwork will feel some sense of ownership and that the overall work will come together and show what can be achieved from the collaborative process.
